A failing slab edge at a Sunshine Coast primary school — broken out to 150mm, re-reinforced and rebuilt with independent engineer sign-off, all inside the school holidays.
Surface rust stains rarely tell the whole story. Once breakout began, two additional hidden defect areas were uncovered beyond the original scope — invisible from the surface. On structural repairs, engaging an engineer and allowing for what the concrete reveals is the difference between a real fix and a cosmetic one.
Rust staining bleeding through the slab soffit and corroded embedded fixings — clear signs that the concrete cover had failed and the reinforcement beneath was corroding.

Repair extents were marked out to the engineer's specification, then jackhammer breakout took the slab edge back to sound concrete — up to 150mm deep along a 5.3 metre run.

New steel was cut, lapped and tied to match the engineer's layout, boxed out with formwork and waterproofing membrane, then rebuilt and hand-finished to blend with the original slab.

Handed back on time, before the first day of term: full structural cover restored, hidden defects resolved, and no trace of the original damage.
